Great singing, great playing - but I must be getting very old and sad when anything to do with corporations makes me so suspicious of the motives behind things.
The very words 'Starbucks', 'leadership' and 'conference' make me wince! By hiring these fellas, just what are they trying to make us think? When companies spend money, there's always a reason and it's often a message. I know, I've worked in PR...
Gavin and Giacomo, you two hit both ends of the spectrum. I too was dismayed to see the reference to Starbucks (in anything). A detail like that makes me distrust the motives of the entire enterprise. But the sentiment is wonderful, the music is awesome, so if someone is trying to send a message, I got it! For now I am happy to accept this effort at face value. There's some big money behind Playing for Change, what we see is big time production. If anything substantially different is to happen to human culture, it will have to involve the big corporations buying into dreams as much as profit. No doubt the folks at Starbucks see the rising tide of consumer discontent and are trying to head us off at the pass. Now if we could get them to contribute to Giacomo's North Sea to Black Sea effort!
