Birthright

Joan Sol Pérez who writes the excellent blog, The Sea is the Way brought this video to my attention.

Sean Mullens provides a sensitive glimpse into the life of a determined surfer who has been permanently wounded by his sport, yet refuses to abandon the life he loves.

As a person who has suffered similar setbacks and shares the struggle to live life to it's fullest regardless, Sean's penetrating video has personal resonance for me.

My pride and admiration for Sean's friend Michael has no bounds.

"One man's struggle to transcend. This humble film is about a friend of mine named Michael and his daily ritual to find his natural self through surfing. Directed by Sean Mullens; Cinematography by Sean Mullens; Music by The Album Leaf, Into the Blue Again."

An inspiring man

When Michael gets free of the land and floats away from shore... I know the feeling of liberation in that moment. Inspiring, indeed.

Another story of someone overcoming the odds. When we feel sorry for ourselves for petty reasons, we should look at these kind of stories and snap out of it.

Baydog,
I experienced traumatic and permanent injuries when I was a young man in my prime. Before that I had very little awareness of or empathy for disabilities.
But now I know that people with disabilities can be some of the most determined souls you will ever meet.
For the last thirty years I have not had the time for self pity, life is too short! Live every day as if it's your last.
