Building Ontong Java

Find more videos like this on Wharram Builders and Friends

I suppose all sailors have a romantic cultural memory of the original explorers of our water planet. Vast amounts of money have been spent on recreating the boats we supposed those early pioneers used in time out of memory.
James Wharram has spent his life demonstrating that the technology required to travel the oceans is simple and the ability to do so is part of our genetic code.

This video can be found on Wharram Builders and Friends. Hans Klaars has built a genuine WAKA, a 71 foot voyage canoe based on drawings from the mid-1800's of the canoes of the Tuamotus.

I find this fascinating, hope you do too.

Thanks to dirtsailor for the heads-up.
