Yaquina River Runoff
And speaking of the Yaquina, after several days of continuous rain and hail the river is swollen with run-off. Combine the season's extreme tide ranges with all that water coming from the surrounding mountains and you have some very fine down river rowing.
Or better yet, just drift along and chat with your neighbor.
To celebrate the new year, Brandon and Virginia in Ravn joined Mary and I in Paku for a peaceful float down our favorite river. Very pleasant and much better than our attempt last year.
Here we have a shot of the clip-on rear view mirror I use when riding a bicycle. Turns out to be very handy for rowing as well. In a flooded river such as this there will always be a lot of woody debris and downed trees best avoided.
Of course you know that 2011 is a prime number.
