Depoe Bay Wooden Boat Festival 2009

It was a fine spring weekend in the tiny Oregon harbor town of Depoe Bay (named for Chief Depoe of the Siletz Indian tribe) for their annual small craft boat show.

Doryman was there with the bateau Huckleberry, the skiff Paku and the Thistle racing dingy Sweet Sixteen.

A good time was had by all in the spring sunshine (a rare item this time of year on the rainy coast of Oregon).

More of this event to come in the days ahead! Stay tuned...

What a beautiful boat! Should be very light to row.

I will have more to say about Huckleberry soon. This was her first taste of water and as any proud papa, I was worried a bit. She draws about two inches empty! With very little rocker, she's quick in a sprint and skims the water. But next time with a little more rocker, the boat will turn better.
Also, I made a 7 1/2 foot set of oars, but an 8 1/2 foot set would help. (and I have some out back!...)
